Back again for another lap around Ringkøbing Fjord! This year I ran the LNBK Ringkøbing Fjord Winter Edition 2026 - a 102 kilometer race around the beautiful fjord on Denmark’s west coast.

I was up early at 03:40 to make sure I could get to race check-in and everything starting at 06:30 in Ringkøbing. Worth it though 🌅💪🏻!
This is how it looked like on Strava after my race:

I ran this race last year as well and that was a great experience with perfect weather and some nice PBs. This year turned out quite different though 😅.

The first 50K section was significantly more technical and harder to run this time around - lots of snow and ice on the paths that really hammered the legs. You have to constantly adjust your stride and landing, which takes a toll after a while.
The last 50K was roughly on par with last year in terms of difficulty, but I suspect my legs were already pretty “shut down” from the tough first half 😬. I also had a rather nasty bonk in the final 15K or so. Turns out my bottle caps had frozen solid and I couldn’t drink anything 🥶! I think that definitely contributed to hitting the wall harder than usual towards the end of the race.

During the race, I got passed by Mikael Schwartz who was running the 50K. Mikael is a running acquaintance I once met at a race and we’ve been connected on Strava since then. He was incredibly strong as he passed me - just flying along! 🚀 It was such a nice moment to meet him out there and chat a bit 😊. But naturally he had to keep going at his much faster pace towards the finish line. Great to see him crushing it! 👏🏻
Despite the tough conditions, the raw west coast rolling hills and the route around the fjord are still fantastic - harsh at times, but that’s part of the charm.
The race organization and volunteers did an excellent job as always 👏🏻🤩. They were SUPER helpful in actively filling my bottles at the aid stations - really appreciated that! The aid stations were well stocked with all sorts of goodies too 🤗.

All in all, I finished in 11h03m10s covering 102 kilometers - and I’m quite satisfied with that result! Despite the tough conditions, I still placed in the top 25% which I think is quite ok given what was definitely a strong finisher field 💪🏻. It was a very sweet feeling to finally get to the finish line as my legs were absolutely smashed 😅. First thing I did was seeking out the toilet - I had some imminent business to attend to 🚽😬! Second thing was grabbing a sandwich and then hurrying home to relax 🥪🏠.
Recommended?
Absolutely! It’s still a beautiful and well-organized race 👌🏻. You should definitely give this race a go if you’re looking for a proper winter 100K challenge in Denmark!
One small note though: access to a toilet during the race would have been nice 😅.
I’ll be back 🤠👍🏻.
